STAR
Star was rescued in April 2022 at 1 yrs old. She came from middle Tennessee where she was surrendered by her owners who said she had a very high prey drive and it was not safe for her to be around their young children. When she first came to Wolf PAWS, Star was living with Orion. Being so young, she had tons of puppy energy and enjoyed to landscape their enclosure, leaving huge craters in the ground. This is partly due to her excess energy, but it her digging tendency also stems from a denning instinct that is hard-wired into wolves and higher-content female wolf-dogs. This is to prepare a den for their young, and this behavior can be seen even if the female is spayed. After a couple of years running circles around Orion who is ~7 years her senior, we decided Star needed a younger companion. In April of 2024, we rescued Lucifer from Husky Halfway House in Oklahoma and introduced him to Star in a new enclosure (neutral environment for both of them). since then, she and Lucifer have formed a nice bond, and it is wonderful to see her engaging with play with her younger companion. Her favorite activity is splashing in her pool! She loves to be petted by her regular caretakers, and sometimes howls with delight when our volunteers give her love.
